We the People of El Paso

Another Official Insult to Hispanics by the City of El Paso

Friday, September 15, 2006, the Border Observer of El Diario de El Paso ran a story further illuminating the official insult the City of El Paso has hurled at Hispanics via the secretive GlassBeach presentation proffered by City Manager Joyce Wilson. This presentation centers around the fact that El Paso must have a new brand image if we are to compete for the almighty tourist dollar and recognition on the world stage. According to the presentation, we must move away from an old, dirty, lazy Spanish speaking culture and embrace an image which is, in the words of Representative Steve Ortega, a "hip, cool, slick thing to be associated with."

What we have, in my opinion, is a city government that simply does not care about the people and ipso facto promotes cultural malfeasance and bigotry in the egotistical and arrogant quest to foist the Paso del Norte Group's Downtown Plan upon the public.
